I had the privilege of presenting at the 2015 Exmormon Foundation Conference as a Mental Health Therapist. I presented some of ideas and methods I use with individuals and families dealing with faith transition from Mormonism. The overwhelming response I received (many participants came up to comment to me on different aspects of the presentation that were particularly useful to them or mention issues they wished I had included) has me convinced that I have only scratched the surface of a very important topic. I promised folks I'd share the slides here and will post the youtube video link once it is available.

Peter, your presentation was a very needed resource, thanks so much for this. I personally believe that learning and understanding the facts about mormonism is only the beginning. Long after people are done with the LDS church, they are still saddled with the innumerable liabilities and dysfunctions common to people who have lived within damaging cults. I also personally believe it is really impossible to fully heal and recover without a recovered support system and, very often, skilled therapy. Thousands have left mormonism, but far fewer have been able to reconstruct the self and push past all the programming and brain washing they endured. The more the issue of cult recovery can be underscored and identified as a necessary and nonnegotiable step in healthy recovery, the more likely people can emerge and take the time to fully recover before making a ton of life decisions.
